FITTING

Custom Fitting Done Right.

In its simplest terms a fitting is to establish the right specs for your clubs. A Dynamic Fitting process (where you physically hit balls) is used to establish the best mix of equipment for you.

Who Should Get Fit?

Club Fitting is a useful process to golfers of all skill levels.

What Should You Expect in a Fitting?

The fitting is tailored to the needs of the individual. The fitting will start with an interview. We will assess the state of your game and identify the strengths and areas for improvement. I will look at the current equipment you are playing to assess how it matches your game.

Although a golfer may have a fitting to get new equipment, the purpose of many fitting sessions is not to sell you new clubs but to establish the most suitable equipment for you. Perhaps the off the rack clubs you purchased simply need a tweak to suit your needs and improve your consistency. Maybe your clubs are not the proper length or your grips are too big? Basically, a fitting should provide you with an equipment prescription.

It’s not uncommon for golfers to have clubs unsuitable for them.

  • Clubs are too short or too long

  • Shaft is not the correct flex (too stiff or too flexible)

  • Shaft is not the appropriate material (Steel vs Graphite)

  • Shaft is not the proper weight

  • Grips are not the correct size

  • Overall club weight or swing weight is not suitable

During the fitting the following are factors to be determined:

  • Length, Single Length

  • Weight

  • Head Style (Blade/Cavity Back), set makeup

  • Grip

  • Lie

Suggested Fitting Priorities

Get your irons and putter fitted as a priority

The average golf score is 96. In a round of 96 the average shot breakdown is as follows:

  • 40 Putts

  • 19 Wedges

  • 14 Irons

  • 21 Woods and Hybrids

Putts and Wedges account for 62.5% of the shots

High handicappers spend 90% of their practice time on full shot woods and irons and spend the most money on a Driver. Think about that.

Statistics show the majority of shots during your round will occur from inside 125 yards. Therefore, practice your wedges before anything else. Hit your wedges closer and you will also likely take less putts.

Don’t forget to get the most used but neglected club in the bag properly fit – The Putter. The putter is used for more shots than any other club each round and should be fit to your swing. You likely hit the putter 3 to 4 times more than your driver. Which club should you really invest in and have fit? A 3 foot putt and a 300yd drive both count 1 on the scorecard

If you’re going to take the time to practice, find a practice facility with a good short game area and focus on your short game. Pros don’t hit all fairways and greens they save the strokes around the green. See a pro and take a short game lesson.

Getting Custom Fit is one part of the equation. Having a fitting done and then sending your specs to a production factory to build your clubs to within their tolerance defeats thee purpose. Having a qualified club maker custom building your clubs to the prescribed specifications adds a level of quality control to ensure your equipment is dialed in for you.  At my shop clubs are built to exacting specifications, shafts are frequency matched, spined and FLOd.
